2-ply 100% alpaca yarn washed, processed and spun by my two hands!

alpaca is truly a luxurious fibre, and the farm where this fibre comes from takes good care of their animals, making it some of the nicest alpaca i’ve worked with. alpaca has a micron count of around 18-25µm, making it super soft and perfect for garments that’ll be close to your skin. this yarn is worsted spun, making it more consistent to work with but it still has the natural variation that makes working with handspun so special.

this fibre is sourced from a local farm just 20 miles from cardiff, near newport. after collecting, it’s washed in small batches of around 400g and carded with my hand carders. it then gets spun into two singles of about 50g each, before being plied together. the yarn is then finished by soaking it in water and hanging it to dry attached to a small weight to help set the spin.

the nature of this product means it has a variable gauge, and doesn’t fit a conventional weight like commercially spun yarn does. it tends to vary from 6 to 10 wpi, but this is not always the case. if you’re requiring a specific wpi, please get in touch!
